George Brown (1818-1880) was a 19th-century Scottish-born Canadian politician, newspaper publisher (he founded The Globe, precursor to The Globe and Mail) and was one of the Fathers of Confederation. An essential figure in the formation of Canada, Brown was a strong believer in public education. George Brown Archives maintains and provides access to the college’s records of permanent value and those that have a finite retention period, as well as the records of GBC’s antecedent organizations. The archives’ holdings total approximately 3,700 linear metres stored at Casa Loma Campus and an offsite facility.George Brown Archives is open to all researchers by appointment.
