About institution

Since its first classes were held on campus in 1957, the University of Nevada - Las Vegas (UNLV) has transformed itself from a small branch college into a thriving urban research institution. Along the way, the urban university has become an indispensable resource in one of the country's fastest-growing and most enterprising cities. There is no “average” Rebel. One third of students are the first in their families to go to college. Tagalog is one of the most-spoken second languages among students. Military Times lists UNLV as one of its Best for Vets. All that ripples throughout the campus. It creates a climate where students can both find their people and expand their worldview.
