The Department of Political Science seeks to equip majors with the intellectual tools for understanding: the political systems of the United States and other countries across the globe; the international dynamics of an interdependent world; and different philosophical perspectives on politics. The Bachelor of Arts in Political Science program offers students a deep understanding of government systems, political behavior, public policy, and international relations. The curriculum includes foundational courses in political theory, comparative politics, American government, and global politics, as well as specialized topics like public policy analysis, political philosophy, international law, and electoral systems. Students learn to analyze political issues, understand governmental structures, and evaluate the impact of policies on society. The program emphasizes critical thinking, research, and analytical skills, helping students to interpret political data, engage in informed debates, and communicate effectively about complex politicalissues. Opportunities for internships, case studies, and involvement in model government or international organizations allow students to gain practical experience in political environments. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in government, public administration, law, international relations, journalism, advocacy, and non-profit organizations. This degree also serves as a foundation for advanced studies in political science, law school, or public administration, and prepares graduates to engage in roles that impact policy-making, diplomacy, public service, and civic leadership.
