Criticism and Curatorial Practice at OCAD U is the first undergrad program in Canada to prepare artists to be critics and curators. In this program, you will get experience in the studio making art themselves. We believe that people who work in all areas of art and culture benefit from this hands-on experience. You will benefit from studying with artists, curators, writers and designers, and learn how contemporary art and design productions and exhibitions reach the public. The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Criticism & Curatorial Practice is a unique undergraduate degree that combines art history, critical theory, and curatorial studies. It prepares students to become future art critics, curators, arts writers, and cultural producers by exploring the relationship between art, audiences, institutions, and society. This program focuses not only on studying and interpreting art but also on organizing exhibitions, writing critical reviews, and engaging with contemporary cultural debates. Students learn to think analytically about visual culture, develop research and writing skills, and gain hands-on experience curating real or virtual exhibitions.
