Laney College's Associate of Science in Banking and Finance program introduces students to a broad range of banking and finance including asset and liability management, financial decision making, financial markets and institutions, and gain practical knowledge of the core principles of accounting and economics. Coursework will include: 1) an overview of banking system; 2) specific banking functions and the role of banking in the economy; 3) review legal and regulatory issues, including compliance; and 4) explore the Federal Reserve System’s policies and operations. Upon completion of this program a student will be able to Apply appropriate critical and problem solving skills to a banking situation dealing with services banks provide to the public. Critique the functions of money and evaluate which functions holds the greatest significance. Investigate the technology advances in the bank’s cash management systems, and evaluate the strength and weakness of each system.
