The bachelor of science in electrical engineering degree program builds a strong foundation of math and basic science courses, plus general education courses, to supplement the electrical and computer engineering and the general engineering courses required. The math foundation is so strong that, with only one additional math course, you can earn a math minor along with your engineering degree.
The upper-level courses focus on modern technology and how quickly the electrical and computer engineering field evolves. We explore emerging technologies, focusing on those in telecommunications and software. We also encourage you to step beyond routine classwork in digital logic, and learn to use the latest micro-controller kits to develop new applications.
All students in the electrical engineering program complete a senior design project over the course of two semesters, and these projects are specifically designed to prepare you for engineering practice. Past projects have included working with the Cajun Advanced Picosatellite Experiment (CAPE), the IEEE competition robot, the BeauSoleil Home, and solar power analysis. All projects are closely mentored by industry professionals, who help with the project structure to help mimic real world engineering projects that include design goals, budget constraints, and strict schedules.
