Course overview

Anthropology is the comparative study of societies and human diversity. It asks questions about the behaviour, meaning and value between different societies and cultures. Anthropologists focus on groups within society that follow a distinct way of life, such as workers on the shop floor of a factory, people who live by hunting and gathering in the Amazon, corporate managers, Indigenous Australian artists, fans of Harry Potter books, opium growers in South-East Asia or members of a religious group.

In the Anthropology major, you’ll learn to differentiate between disciplinary approaches, concepts and methods in the study of the humanities; as well as how to recognise and advocate for the role of the humanities in society. You’ll also have the opportunity to choose from a range of electives in areas such as cultural heritage, public history, public relations and social media, and psychological science.
