There is currently a high demand for graduates in medicinal and pharmaceutical chemistry. Students will acquire advanced training in various fields of medicinal chemistry and gain significant skills in the drug discovery and development processes. This degree combines knowledge of chemistry and biology in order to understand the causes of disease leading to the design, synthesis, characterisation and development of medicines to treat or cure the diseases.
Subjects introduce the basic elements of modern medicinal chemistry before delving into specialised training in drug discovery. This degree also integrates science communication and science management to prepare graduates for diverse career pathways. Tutorials and laboratory-based practical work are offered where you can explore new technology developed in medicinal chemistry. You will use laboratory instruments and computer modelling to develop therapeutics.
Designed through the lens of global perspectives in science, throughout this degree you will be exposed to emerging technologies such as the use of drones, Artificial Intelligence (AI), coding in science data collection and analysis, and the responsible conduct of research. The Master of Medicinal Chemistry also integrates graduate work practice skills allowing you to translate your skills into career ready attributes.
