University of Central Lancashire
Our Biomedical Science degree is accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS), which is essential for employment in hospital pathology laboratories. It involves the study of health and disease and how the human body functions during normal and diseased states. On this course you will develop an in-depth understanding of the human body in health and disease, both through extensive hands-on laboratory work and by linked academic theory. Year 1 provides a sound theoretical and practical framework covering biochemistry, microbiology, physiology and pharmacology and key laboratory skills. Year 2 is where analytical and critical skills are developed and areas such as human physiology, metabolism, molecular biology and enhanced practical and research skills are studied in detail. The final year of the Biomedical Science course includes a range of specialist modules (taught by specialist staff) and a research project, allowing you to integrate your acquired theory and skills.
