British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT)
The Broadcast and Online Journalism Diploma enhances your interviewing, announcing, and news delivery skills, shaping you into a versatile journalist and media professional. In this dynamic 2-year program, students can produce a 30-minute news segment, create multimedia content for BCIT News, and report on the student-run radio station. Journalism faculty is experienced in all aspects of one of the most fascinating and ever-changing fields today. Join a program of comprehensive, hands-on training. From day one, students will be working as a journalist, connecting with professionals in the field, and learning the skills to get them in the door and beyond. By participating in interactive class lectures and labs, students will learn the expertise they need to begin a new job as a writer, producer, reporter, anchor, video journalist, and more. Students are trained to be comfortable with mobile journalism, constantly filing to three media platforms each day (TV, radio, and online), breaking down the walls between traditional newsrooms. That emphasis puts this program on the cutting edge of journalism schools across the country, mirroring the quickly evolving world of news and information. Labs include working in the field and in the studios for the radio station, the weekly television program and the website.
