The Computer Games Design and Development degree focuses on developing the relevant and desirable skills needed to pursue a career in the games development industry. Students can expect industry led course content and will have the option to focus their studies to include specialist topics such as Gameplay, Game Engine and Virtual Reality to become highly employable across different sectors of the games industry. As such, graduates will be a named an award in:
- -BSc Computer Games Design and Development (Gameplay)
- -BSc Computer Games Design and Development (Game Engine)
- -BSc Computer Games Design and Development (Virtual Reality)
Students will have access to the latest tools and technologies used in industry such as Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo console development kits along with VR equipment from Oculus, HTC and Valve as well as access to Cardiff Met's VR development booths which provide a truly unique learning experience. Students will even have access to MAME Arcade Machine and foosball tables which provide a much needed opportunity to let off steam between lectures in the newly refurbished and modern study spaces.
Industry experienced staff members will support students not only in developing their skills but also their confidence beyond the degree programme through more personal teaching methods. This helps students more easily adapt to academic life and provides a real sense of community.
Given that the video game industry is the largest entertainment industry (ERA, 2022), there has never been a better time to pursue a career in games. BSc Computer Games Design and Development will set students on a path to do exactly that. As the course content is continually evaluated to ensure students are equipped with the latest and most desirable skills needed for industry it’s no wonder that graduates have gone on to secure roles within well-known gaming organisations such as Ubisoft, Cloud Imperium, Kwalee, PlayEmber, Lively, Sumo Digital and many more.
