Course overview

All students in our B.A. program take “Introduction to English Studies,” a course that introduces students to range of methods and approaches for producing and analyzing texts across media. They also choose two literary history courses, a course in linguistics, and a course in communication (including journalism, rhetoric, and writing). Students then choose any six courses in English, and this is where students get an opportunity to design a path through the diverse offerings of the Department of English and Communications. The B.A. culminates with a portfolio course during which students gather together and reflect upon their best work at Rutgers–Camden.Depending on their interest and professional plans, students can build their own concentration by choosing courses in communication, literature, linguistics, film and media studies, rhetoric, and writing. Many English majors choose to double major in Digital Studies, a program that offers an interdisciplinary degree in digital tools and cultures.
