Course overview

The mission of the Department of Accountancy at Miami University is to prepare students to excel as high-integrity, business leaders within fulfilling professional careers. The department also seeks to enable faculty members to be outstanding instructors whose scholarship informs their teaching and who positively impact the profession, academy, university, and community. The Department of Accountancy has been accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International since 1984. The undergraduate accountancy curriculum is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to succeed in an increasingly dynamic business environment.  Miami University's Farmer School of Business is annually recognized as one of the nation's best undergraduate business schools. Each year, the number of first-year applications for the Farmer School of Business (FSB) exceeds the number of spaces available. Admission to the FSB is competitive and based on a holistic and comprehensive review process which considers many factors to establish the context of students' achievements and demonstrated potential to be successful in its rigorous curriculum. High achieving students have the option of pursuing a combined degree program in which they can earn both a bachelor's and master's degrees in accountancy within four years. After completing the program, graduates are qualified to sit for the CPA examination in the state of Ohio and most other states that have adopted the 150-hour education requirement. To be eligible to apply for the combined program, students must have earned a minimum of 64 credit hours with a GPA of 3.25 or higher. They will need to complete all Miami Plan, business core, and sophomore- and junior-level accountancy coursework by the end of their third year to be eligible to enroll in the MAcc curriculum their fourth year.
