Course overview
Data Analytics combines statistical methods, programming skills and deep knowledge in a field of application to extract meaning from large, unstructured or complex data sets with the goal of informing policy, decisions or scholarly research. Students select a concentration in one of four areas of application: Bioinformatics, Geospatial Analytics, Social Data Analytics and Sport Analytics. A major in data analytics layers field-specific content knowledge on a strong foundation of tools for data management, programming solutions and statistical modeling. An ever-broadening expanse of data informs discussion in the public sphere and pushes the frontiers of knowledge in all areas of scientific and human inquiry. In-depth analysis of complex data shapes operations and effectiveness in communities, government, health and nonprofit organizations while fueling innovation in business and industry. The major in Data Analytics provides the skills and knowledge needed to investigate and understand trends, connections, preferences and influences.
