The UK’s national cybersecurity strategy identifies software vulnerabilities as a key threat and makes building security into software from the start a national priority. However, most software developers lack expertise in cybersecurity, which is currently in high demand in the industry. Working across desktop, mobile, and embedded platforms, the student will learn how to design and implement secure software systems that are resilient to cyberattacks. They will gain an in-depth understanding of programming and building secure systems through practical, hands-on experience. Specializing in the design, implementation, and analysis of secure software systems, the student will cover offensive and defensive techniques. The student will be equipped for the constantly evolving cybersecurity work environment through teaching expertise in ethical hacking, computing, secure software engineering, and human-centered security. Leveraging their programming and computer architecture knowledge, they will develop and implement systems with reduced vulnerabilities to combat cyberattacks using offensive and defensive strategies.
