The Art History program at University of West Florida offers courses in a variety of subject areas such as Medieval, Renaissance, Modern European, Non-Western, American, and Contemporary. The program also offers special topics courses such as the History of Photography and Nineteenth Century Art and Science. University of West Florida students have the opportunity to do internships and coursework with either The Art Gallery at University of West Florida or at the Pensacola Museum of Art, the University’s art museum. Students will also be encouraged to study abroad. One of these study-abroad opportunities includes the Irish Experience, an ongoing summer program in Carlow, Ireland Students pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Art, Art History specialization, will become familiar with art theory and methods of analysis. The program offers experience in writing and research in the field of art history, as well as extensive investigation of major artists and artworks in various art historical periods. The art history program at University of West Florida prepares students for a variety of professional roles and advanced academic study. At the completion of the program, students will have developed the skills to pursue a Master’s degree or a Ph.D. Students might choose to work at a gallery, museum or an auction house, among other opportunities.
