This three-year single-honours degree invites you to develop your performance skills and deepen your understanding of the social, cultural and historical contexts of theatre and performance. You’ll spend time in studio-based modules (with small class groups—practical sessions of ~20 students) where you act, direct, write, or co-create dramatic events; alongside more traditional lecture/seminar modules where you examine theatre histories, performance theory and analysis. In Year 1 you take four core modules (for example: Theatre Histories; Performance Analysis; Staging the Text; The Creative Actor) to build your foundations. In Year 2 and Year 3 you have increasing choice of optional studio- and seminar-based modules, allowing you to tailor your interests (for example: Acting for Screen; Site-Specific and Immersive Theatre; Theatre and Empire). The programme is delivered on the Streatham Campus in Exeter. By the end, you will not only have developed practical performance and creative-production skills, but also transferable skills such as communication, team-working, project-planning, independent research and critical thinking — preparing you for careers in theatre, performance, creative industries, arts-management, education or further study.
