The Communication Disorders degree allows students to pursue training to become a Speech Language Pathologist or Audiologist. Students will learn about normal and disordered speech, language and hearing, and prepare for careers in this field. Speech Language Pathologists can work in a variety of settings including schools, private practice, and healthcare facilities, such as hospitals, rehab centers, outpatient clinics and the home care setting. Audiologists can work in healthcare facilities, such as hospitals, outpatient clinics, private clinics and industry. Speech Language Pathology is one of the fastest growing jobs in the healthcare industry with demand for therapists nationwide. Upon completion of the bachelor’s degree, graduates will be prepared to enter the workforce as Speech Language Pathology Assistants or Audiology Assistants. Upon completion of the undergraduate degree students will be knowledgeable about the mechanisms of speech, language, hearing, and the identification and treatment of various disorders encountered throughout life. Students can choose to attend graduate school to obtain a Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology or a Doctorate in Audiology (AuD). The Communication Disorders degree requires two years of general education and pre-requisite courses prior to admission into the Communication Disorders program for the final two years of specialized studies and training. All courses are offered at Schreiner University, or students can transfer their pre-requisite and general education courses and begin with the upper-level specialized courses.
