Nursing students first complete their prerequisite courses and other university requirements (such as general education requirements) as a pre-nursing major at the University of Utah or another college/university. Most students complete their prerequisites and other required courses in two years. Declaration of the pre-nursing major at the University of Utah does not guarantee admission to the nursing program. The curriculum in the nursing program provides learning experiences in health promotion, acute care, primary care, population health from community and global perspectives, social disparities and determinants of health, health care policy, and health care organization and systems. Students receive supervised clinical learning experiences with clients in a variety of settings for approximately 12-24 hours per week. Opportunities to participate in research, community engaged learning, and leadership experiences are integrated throughout the program.
