Sheridan Institute of Higher Education
Sheridan’s Bachelor of Business program provides an undergraduate education in business. In the first year, the program covers foundational areas of understanding through six Business core units in management, statistics, law, marketing, accounting, and economics – serving as a pathway for further learning. In subsequent years, students can pursue individual interests in a range of business disciplines, including accounting, human resource management, marketing, economics, management, and not-for-profit (NFP) management. The units are grounded in a Christian ethical framework and examine Christian perspectives on business which uphold the dignity of human beings and our social responsibilities to one another. Students develop their academic and business research skills through a suite of three Research core units, over the course of the three-year study. Starting with developing Academic and Professional Communication (RS191) skills in the first year, students progress to acquiring skills in deploying Research Methods (RS292) in academic and business research in Year 2. In the final year, students apply what they have learnt to a real-life business case, and produce a research report in RS394 (Research Project). Undertaking a major in Accounting provides a strong practical and theoretical grounding in the competencies required to pursue a professional accounting qualification with Chartered Accountants Australia New Zealand (CAANZ), Certified Practising Accountants (CPA), or Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). The Accounting Major comprises six (6) business core units, eight (8) major core units specific to the Accounting discipline, three (3) research core units, three (3) common core units, and four (4)electives. To meet professional accounting accreditation, students are recommended to take four(4) specified electives.
