The Redlands Accounting program differs from programs in many business schools because we believe that a rigorous, liberal arts education is the most effective foundation for a career in professional accounting. While our students acquire the specific business and accounting knowledge necessary to pass professional examinations and join the accounting profession, we are most proud of the development of their intellectual and analytical capabilities, interpersonal and communication skills, and commitments to integrity, self-motivation, and lifelong learning. In the Bachelor of Science in Accounting program you will study business and finance-related topics, including financial reporting for decision-making, auditing, tax, and other topics to prepare you for a career in finance, investments, management, or law enforcement. You will learn more than just the foundations of accounting though; the accounting program is a well-rounded program, also helping students develop intellectual and analytical capabilities, interpersonal and communication skills, and commitments to integrity, self-motivation, and lifelong learning. This rigorous program will give you a hands-on education that will effectively prepare you to pass professional examinations and join the accounting profession.
The accounting program at University of Redlands provides you with a comprehensive education that combines liberal arts studies with preparation for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensure. You will work closely with and learn from expert faculty -- who have extensive professional experience in large and small CPA firms and corporations -- in small classes that encourage active participation. Our passionate faculty provides extensive mentorship, helping you to better understand course content, apply for accounting-related internships and jobs, and provide guidance for independent study, capstones, or honors projects. Your education and career goals will be further supported through opportunities like community service work with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, study abroad options, participation in the Redlands Accounting Society, or internships at local organizations. Many graduates from this program complete 150 college units and pass the CPA exam, or acquire professional certifications such as a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA), shortly after graduation. In fact, some students even secure job offers before their senior year and work in a variety of accounting-related fields like finance, investments, management, and law enforcement.
