Central Connecticut University
The B.S. program in Biochemistry provides a strong foundation in both molecular biology and in chemistry and is based on faculty, facilities, and research resources in the Department of Biomolecular Sciences and the Department of Chemistry. In addition to in-class laboratory instruction, the program emphasizes independent student research conducted under the guidance of a faculty member to prepare students for careers or advanced study in molecular biology, biochemistry, or health-related fields. The Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry is a science-focused degree that explores the chemical processes and molecular mechanisms that occur in living organisms. It integrates biology and chemistry to understand the structure and function of cellular components such as proteins, enzymes, DNA, and lipids.Students study how these biomolecules interact in complex pathways to regulate life processes like metabolism, genetic expression, disease mechanisms, and drug action. This program provides a strong foundation for careers in biomedical research, pharmaceuticals, health sciences, and biotechnology, and is also excellent preparation for medical or graduate school.
