Students in the new IEG program will choose a concentration in one of four topics: petroleum, geothermal energy, geological carbon sequestration, and dissolved minerals. The IEG program will provide advanced training in geology and geophysics for students preparing to enter industries including oil and gas, carbon sequestration, geothermal energy, and helium and lithium exploration. This is a joint program of the Departments of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences and Physics.
This is a full-time 1.5 year program that emphasizes cross-disciplinary training and the teamwork that characterizes modern exploration and development methods. Students take a common set of courses in geology, geophysics, petrophysics and reservoir engineering, and additional graduate courses related to their concentration. Students will then complete a 5.5 month capstone project in their concentration.
