Managers typically work long, but regular hours, have respected roles, and can earn a rewarding salary. At Austin Peay State University students preparing to become healthcare managers will have the opportunity to achieve managerial competencies in areas like accounting, management, disparities, ethics, marketing, finance, law, economics, strategic planning, quality improvement, and human resources. The demand for healthcare managers is rising. Help meet that demand and make a meaningful difference in someone’s life. A frequently asked question is ‘What do managers do?’ Managers plan, lead, and coordinate health and human services organizations in a growing and continuously changing environment. They typically oversee departments, clinics, hospitals, or networks where no day is the same. Managers can do their important work in a wide range of public and private organizations such as pharmaceuticals, community health departments, nursing homes, laboratories, insurance companies, and not- for-profit organizations. Courses reflect the need for students to balance clinical and business aspects of managing health and human services organizations. The program allows for some internship opportunities, experiential learning, and sufficient electives to pursue a minor in other areas of interest. Students will have the opportunity to achieve healthcare managerial competencies in areas such as accounting, management, marketing, finance, law, economics, strategic planning, disparities, ethics, quality improvement, and human resources.
