Applicants majoring in public management will take a mixture of required and elective courses designed to provide an understanding of the political and institutional contexts in which public policies are made and implemented and to inculcate the values and technical and managerial skills necessary for public sector management. Students will develop the qualities of mind and heart to serve as a leader of local communities and the world and not just as an informed citizen. While pursuing a career in public sector management, they will of necessity “embrace leadership in an increasingly complex, interdependent and technological world.” Students' broad-based education in the liberal arts will encourage them to pursue work in government or related careers with integrity and social responsibility.
