With access to cutting-edge features including 3D scanners and printers, modern manufacturing & technical workshops and cutting-edge prototyping facilities, students will develop an expert technical knowledge, while being encouraged to think creatively about design problems.
Students will discover how to use the latest solid modelling, rendering and product simulation tools to create and evaluate their own designs, as well as gaining an in-depth understanding of the engineering principles underlying the product development process. Designed to develop abilities in this exciting area, the course content integrates technology, arts, market awareness and the skills needed to use advanced product development tools.
After building a solid foundation of knowledge in year one, students will develop design skills in year two. In year three students will have the chance to complete a 30-week work placement, and in their final year students will display their design project at BU's annual Festival of Design & Engineering, which is open to businesses and the public.
