University of Central Missouri
UCM’s Counselor Education Program is the only one in the central region—and only one of four public institutions in Missouri—to be nationally accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). The Counselor Education Program will prepare students to be an exemplary professional counselor in a school or community/clinical mental health setting. Their small class size allows students to have professional relationships, supervision, and mentoring from their full-time faculty, who are experts in counseling. Applications to the Counselor Education program are reviewed year-round so students can pursue their education when it is best for them. The Counselor Education program offers three areas of concentration: Elementary School Counseling (54 semester credit-hours), Secondary School Counseling (54 semester credit-hours), and Clinical Mental Health Counseling (60 semester credit-hours). Students complete coursework specific to the settings in which they anticipate working after completing a core of courses common to all Counselor Education students. All students are required to successfully pass an exit examination.
