The classroom is a design studio. Students will choose a drafting table, not a desk. A computer lab with specialized design software is just for this program. So is a plotter, a sample room and a work room. All are available 24 hours a day. Along the student's two year college journey, they will develop practical skills such as drafting and rendering. Students will also learn design fundamentals, history, space planning, materials, sustainable building practices, residential construction, and finishes. Students will design and create. Then, design and create some more. Students can get excited about putting their best into National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) student design competitions. They can also expect a challenge to design a space at Lakeland, or in the community. Learning beyond Lakeland, students will attend national design shows and see showrooms in Calgary and Toronto. A two month practicum is another chance for student's to use their skills and network.
